STONE and MARBLE CARVINGS
Return to Top Anthony Martinez is a prominent Southwest alabaster and limestone sculptor and native of the Northern New Mexico community of Questa. Growing up near Toas, surrounded by the Southwest Indian culture, and his heritage of Caucasian, Hispanic, and Pueblo Indian have greatly influenced his art work. He recieved his formal art education at the Art Institute in Minneapolis, but credits his father, Joe Martinez, an artist and art teacher in Santa Fe, for most of his training in sculpting stone. Because of his passion and talent for sculpting, Martinez put aside his career in electronics and pursues art full time. As he sais, "It makes me feel closer to my creator." His unique sculptures, both contemporary and traditional, have won 1st & 2nd place prizes at the New Mexico State Fair, and his designs are exibited in galleries throughout the Southwest and Europe.
